Marathon on the Rocks takes place on the Danish island of Bornholm. Runners will enjoy a true trail run overlooking the Baltic Sea along the edge of dramatic coastal cliffs.
|10 Sept 2020||Welcome to Bornholm|
Today you will arrive to the island, either by air at Bornholm airport (RNN) or by land at the ferry port in Rønne. If you require a transfer from here to Hotel Skovly, we will be more than happy to arrange it for you.
You will receive your Goodie bag upon check-in at Hotel Skovly.
Depending on your time of arrival, you may have time to visit Hammershus. Hammershus is the largest Medieval castle ruins in Northern Europe. If you would like to visit Hammershus, then you have a few options, you can either drive there yourself (20 minutes), you can rent a bike from the hotel (1 hour) or you can take the bus (40 minutes).
|11 Sept 2020||Explore Bornholm, Pasta Dinner|
Today you will have the day free to explore the island at your own pace.
We have come up with a few places of interest that you may want to take the time to visit. We recommend taking a few hours to visit Østerlars Church, Svaneke and Gudhjem. Since these all lie on the Eastern side of the island, you could make a day-trip out of it. You may want to start off with Østerlars Church, the largest round church of the island, then move on to Gudhjem for lunch - you should try the local dish "Sol over Gudhjem", and then finish off with some beer, licorice and ice cream at Svaneke.
If you prefer to enjoy the nature, then you could either go for a hike to Almindingen; this is Denmark's third largest forest, or relax on one of Bornholm's white, sandy beaches; such as Dueodde beach.
In the evening, we will all get together to carbo-load with a pasta dinner.
|12 Sept 2020||Race Day|
Today is the big day! Marathon and half marathon runners will get the opportunity to put their trail running skills to the test along the cliffs and through the forests of Bornholm.
After an early breakfast, the marathon and half marathon runners will depart from the hotel to their starting point at 6:45 and 6:50 am respectively.
Both the marathon and half marathon will begin at 8:00 am - all marathons will be done by 16:00 pm at the latest. There is a 4 hours cut-off time half-way (at 21km) for the marathon runners.
We will try to create a "hygge" atmosphere at the finish line by offering a Danish BBQ and a beer for all the finishers.
|13 Sept 2020||Goodbye Bornholm|
Sadly, our time in Bornholm has come to an end.
After breakfast, we will arrange transfers to the airport (RNN) and the port in Rønne for those who require it.
